In the Central Region, they hold an annual Rendezvous for scouts from all over the region as a way for all the scouts to bond and have fun will learning and competing in new skills. This event has been a huge success in the past, and will hopefully continue to be a success for many years to come. Scout Marc Cauinian recounts what it was like this year.
Sea Scout ships and Venturing crews from all over the Central Region met in Camp Illinek at Springfield, IL, to attend the 2015 Central Region Rendezvous. From May 15-17, nearly a hundred Sea Scouts and Ventures competed in more than 30 on and off water activities and competitions- JY-15 Regatta, Sea Scout Triathlon, and Cardboard Canoe Racing.Additionally, Sea Scouts and Ventures were able to bond together through multiple nighttime activities such as movies, hands on training, and a bonfire. During the day, a Bridge of Honor was held to recognize achievements made by Sea Scouts. Peter Schmidt, the 2014-2015 National Sea Scout Boatswain, was recognized for his work as a National Boatswain with a coin given by the Area 3 Commodore, Bill Hamilton. On Sunday, a religious service was held and Scouts from all over were able to say their goodbyes. Many thanks to the Abraham Lincoln Council, Central Region Sea Scouts, Area 3 Venturing Officer Association and the Island Bay Yacht Club Foundation for hosting this! We look forward to seeing everyone there next year!
